I have guineas in the outdoor brooder, and they’ve been there longer than I intended. They’ve done well though. I have mostly been feeding them food scraps, some meat scraps, and a little scratch. They seem to prefer green bedding which they also consume. Easy enough.

I am thinking a small breeder flock could be kept this way. I built a duck house using similar construction that is 80sqft inside. I might build another for guineas. Maybe with a black soldier fly bin attached.

What am I missing? These seems too easy.

I’ve tried several times with them, but the predators wipe them out here in short order.  I’ve heard many say they are very easy to keep, but that hasn’t been my luck personally.

Yes, predators have been a problem for guineas more than anything else we’ve had. Hawks have been bad for our chicks this year, but few guineas have made it free ranging. The guinea that has been here the longest goes to the coop every night except when she goes broody.

it’s still worth having them to keep the ticks down. They do a better job than our chickens.

I think that is how I could best market them.

I I don’t intend to eat them, I have much less hesitation about feeding them from a commercial waste stream. Especially if it goes through black soldier flys first.

Here is the duck house. Yes, it needs beedding and I just got hinges for the door.

1’ overhang on both sides. It will be easy to move once I get a tractor.

Do you have any pictures of your BSFL bins? I’m just getting started with those, as they have invaded my worm bins. They have a temporary tote right now.

I have never raised them intentionally.

I figure the learning curve couldn’t be too bad.

We’re just going to throw them in with the rest of our flock and see what happens.  I’ve heard they like to roost way high and will find someplace like that.  Its the reason why they don’t always come back to a coop.
